Speculations have been growing to what the season will bring and what this new re-branded team will look like. The Defense was expected to be fierce and projections had the Pit Bulls backed into a corner with a slim chance to pull out a win on opening night. The Pit Bulls opened with a estimated gate of about 250 supporting fans who watched the beginning of something special on the night of 04/22.
The Pit Bulls started out on Defense after deferring to the second half, they quickly rallied on Defense for several stops. The offense took the field with a new offensive system under the guidance of Ancheta. It was quick to see that the offense was very Dynamic is several ways with lots of new personnel additions. WR Cody caught a pass from Eddie Simpson for a TD and connected on another 31 yard to the Cobras 10 late in the 3rd Quarter. The Pit Bulls had a tandem of QB’s as their offense seems to be dynamic and still improving.

In the end the Washington County Pit Bulls came out of the game with their head held high and a Victory of 21-16 over the Cowlitz County Cobras. The Cobras put up a heck of a stance on Defense and had some plays on offense but overall the stingy defense of the Pit Bulls was the key to the success of the Pit Bulls creating 6 defensive interceptions.
LB Jason Cephus for the Pit Bulls stated “ I thought the defense looked crisp and we executed, we were making plays and getting to the ball, The Offense is starting to gel and we will be better as we move through the season”.
Defensive coordinator Calvin Bell: “ We looked good we have a few things to correct but overall the Defense played well and kept us competitive”.
Coach/Owner Mark Ancheta had this to say on his opening night: ”The first one is done with. It is a relief. We did some good things and there are some areas on the field where we need to improve. I am extremely proud of our coaching staff that has prepared the athletes that we have for this season. There has been a lot of hard work that has happen with the re-branding and there is so much more to do. We want to thank the communities of the Washington County that have come out and supported us tonight“.
