Riding on the success of last season's impressive performance, a few of the Pit Bull athletes are making moves.
Just seven moths ago, All Star Defensive back Boogie Watkins lead the team in interceptions and interceptions for TDs. "Boogie is a really gifted and natural athlete. If there is a big play to be made, Boogie was in the middle of it" Head Coach Mark Ancheta said.
Watkins is a 2016 Roosevelt High School graduate out of Portland Oregon. Watkins tried out for the Pit Bulls in January 2017 and quickly earn a spot on the roster. The speedy athlete was quick to turn heads as every defensive play was an impressive pass break up or another interception. Even on special teams, coaches and players were amazed watching the smooth effortless strides on kick and punt returns. In just his second game as a Pit Bull, Watkins boosted his stats against the Portland Raiders. Watkins had a fumble return for a touchdown, and two interceptions. The Pit Bulls lost to the Raiders in a rematch for the PFL championship in August 2017.
"Boogie has built an impressive resume on film that has earned him a chance to extend his education in junior college at the College of the Redwoods. Its a really big accomplishment for the Pit Bulls organization to say that we helped an athlete get a chance to further his education. Its something that I'm really proud of" coach Ancheta said.
Watkins- "I want to thank coach Mark Ancheta first and foremost for giving me an opportunity to play on his team and receive film to send out to junior colleges to boost my recruiting. The experience was great but the brotherhood I built was even greater. Last season things didn’t go as planned but I’m sure the team will be back and better in 2018 ready to win it all".
The former Portland State University and Oregon City athlete is a three year veteran for the Pit Bulls. "Each year has been a blast coaching this kid. He is very studious of the game, very coachable, and just and all around good guy. He has played in D1 level football and is very successful as a financial planner outside of football." said Ancheta.
This past January, Dye participated in a Pro Day competition in California and performed very well in testing. Dye ran a 4.37s 40 yard dash, 3.72s pro agility, 10'2" broad jump, and 6.5s 3 cone drill. Dye went back to California late March to have individual work outs for three Canadian Football League organizations. "With those numbers, who could deny such an athlete. He has been an athlete that leads by example. There is so much to like about this kid. I know that he will be successful at any level of football he is at and in life in general" said Ancheta.
Rodriguez-Garcia is a newcomer to the Pit Bulls organization. Signing in with the Pit Bulls in January 2018, Rodriguez-Garcia, a Silverton, Oregon alumni, becomes one of the book ends of the offensive line for the 2018 season. Rodriguez-Garcia is slated to play at Shasta College later this Fall.
Rodriguez-Garcia-"I am very grateful to be a part of the Pit bull family! Another brotherhood in my timeline.. this past month practicing with the team has been a great experience and new challenge. They know why I am here and what my goals are. I will be a freshman at Shasta College this fall 2018 and join the Knights football team! With the Washington County Pit bulls I will learn and build my skills as an Offensive lineman. I Thank the defensive Line for giving me the opportunity to make mistakes and learn from them! Along with the Offensive line who are helping me build my skills play after play. I know the outcome will be worth every sweat and every drip of blood with this family."
